Audiovisual media have an ever-increasing penetration power in society, especially among minors and young people. Undoubtedly, this audiovisual culture of the new generations is a major challenge for teachers and educational institutions. ICTs and audiovisual content now comprise a symbiosis that offers numerous possibilities for individual and collective learning.
However, for decades, conventional audiovisual media - radio, television and cinema - and images, in general, have been used by schools and institutions to support education and outreach. More recently, methodologies such as e-learning, blended-learning or the flipped classroom have used formats such as podcasts and video as structural elements for their implementation. These are educational models that the Covid19 pandemic is undoubtedly accelerating and consolidating.
The confinement caused by the Covid19 has marked a turning point for education in schools, higher education institutions and so-called lifelong learning. The closure of educational centers has led to the replacement of traditional in-person classroom content by adaptations to online formats, distributed through the platforms enabled by ICTs, whose packaging and formatting are based on audiovisual and multimedia language.
The current global health crisis has accelerated the social model based on the social Web and the universalization of ICTs and other social platforms that offer users the ability to share, create and publish content. Today, physical classrooms, technological platforms and social media are spaces that intertwine to configure the transmedia and multi-screen classrooms, where the educational environment has been transformed. Everything indicates that this scenario, unimaginable only a few months ago, far from reverting to the previous situation, has come to stay.
It is necessary to rethink teaching methodologies and acquisition of skills, through audiovisual and multimedia resources.
