Gamification has emerged as an innovative tool for enhancing educational experiences, particularly in the realm of professional development for teachers. The article "The Use of Gamification as a Vehicle for Pedagogic Sharing and Teachers’ Professional Development," authored by Richard Greaves and Dimitrios Vlachopoulos, delves into this potential by exploring how game mechanics can facilitate the sharing of pedagogical practices in an international secondary school.
By incorporating gamified elements into a six-week activity, the study aimed to assess whether this approach could address the limitations of traditional CPD workshops, fostering a more collaborative and engaging environment for teachers.
Through this action research, the study involved fourteen teachers who participated in creating, developing, and sharing their pedagogical practices through live demonstrations, scoring points for various stages of the process.
The results were promising, indicating that gamification increased the frequency of pedagogical exchanges and boosted teachers' confidence in their teaching strategies. This study suggests that gamification can serve as a powerful vehicle for professional development in schools, promoting a more dynamic and interactive approach to CPD.
The findings highlight the need for further research into the integration of gamification in educational settings, exploring its potential to complement or even replace traditional professional development methods.
