The article "Virtual Escape Rooms: a gamification tool to enhance motivation in distance education" explores the use of Virtual Escape Rooms as an innovative strategy to boost student motivation and engagement in higher education distance learning environments.
Using the AIDA model (Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action), the authors designed a Virtual Escape Room focused on the content of an International Trade course, with the aim of actively engaging students in their learning process.
The research focused on assessing how students perceive this gamification tool and its impact on their motivation. A self-managed survey was distributed to a group of students from the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) and an international sample through social media.
The results revealed a significant increase in student engagement and motivation, leading to better content assimilation and more interaction with study materials.
This study demonstrates that Virtual Escape Rooms can be an effective solution to address student demotivation in distance education, providing a dynamic and engaging learning experience. Additionally, the article suggests that applying the AIDA model in this context offers an innovative approach that can transform how educators design their courses in virtual settings.
