Television has played a crucial role in education, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the closure of educational institutions forced the transition to digital learning.
In the article "Educational Television in Spain: the offer of Atresmedia, Mediaset and RTVE", authors Marta Rodríguez-Castro, Ana María López-Cepeda, and Xosé Soengas-Pérez analyze how the leading Spanish audiovisual groups have adapted their programming to include educational content.
Through an analysis of the programming broadcast in April 2021, the study provides a detailed overview of the educational offerings on Spanish television, highlighting the prevalence of external production and the expansion of these contents towards digital platforms.
The article concludes that, although educational television still occupies a limited space in the programming of free-to-air channels, public television, especially RTVE, continues to lead in educational content compared to private networks.
Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of adapting educational television models to new technological realities, leveraging media convergence to offer more interactive and accessible education.
This analysis helps understand the present and future of educational television in Spain, in a context where digital media are redefining the educational landscape.
