The Radio that Teaches Languages, Citizenship, and Diversity

The Europa on Air experience stands as a paradigmatic example of how educommunication and non-formal education can converge within a transnational framework such as Erasmus+.

Web radio and social media became privileged platforms not only for the production and dissemination of content but also as collaborative learning spaces for the acquisition of linguistic, intercultural, and civic competencies. In this sense, the project embodies the spirit of a networked pedagogy, where communicative practice serves as a catalyst for constructing a European identity and fostering respect for diversity.

From a methodological perspective, the project highlights the power of digital media as tools for media literacy and critical formation. By positioning students as producers, rather than mere receivers, web radio enabled them to experiment with scriptwriting, broadcasting, and sound editing, while simultaneously strengthening their capacity for teamwork.

Social media, in turn, functioned as arenas for both dissemination and intercultural interaction, giving the experience a public dimension that transcends the classroom and reframes communication as a civic practice.

More broadly, Europa on Air confirms that non-formal education, when articulated around educommunication strategies, can make a decisive contribution to European goals of inclusion, mobility, and cultural cohesion.

By recognizing diversity as a source of richness rather than a barrier, the project demonstrates that intercultural competence is not achieved solely through theory but through shared experience and technological mediation. In this way, educommunication emerges as a bridge between learning, citizenship, and social transformation within the horizon of the European Higher Education Area.
